Under 13’s v Foundation Football League

This week the girls played at the Race course at Derby against bottom of the league Foundation Football.
The way that Foundation play, its hard to believe that they are were they are in the league, for the first 20 minutes of the game, they were on top, good runs, strong forwards and good pass back play. Belper took their time to get settled, once Belper we’re allowed to play their game, they dominated the game and the 5 subs we had also began to tell as Foundation began to tire.
Foundation had a couple of serious chances, but our defence was solid and gave as good as it got. At the other end we also showed class against a powerful defence and ran out 6-0 winners with goals from Elisha, Daisy, Faith and Phoebe.
An excellent overall team performance against a side who should be up with the top sides in the league.

U13’s v Wirksworth Colts League

This game came the week after Belper’s defeat to Wirksworth in the cup, has the classic saying goes “we can now concentrate on the league”!

The conditions were cold, sunny and very windy, add this to a sloping pitch and the conditions would make the game. Wirksworth played downhill in the first half and within 10 minutes were ahead with a superb left foot curler from outside the box. After this it was a much more fair game. A small controversy was when Wirksworth were awarded a penalty for handball in the area! Was it in the area, was it defence against being hit in the face? Luckily I’m not the referee and didn’t need to make the decision. In the end, Elizabeth pulled off a superb save and it was 1-0 at the end of the first half.

The second half saw Belper with the downhill and wind advantage, they put this to full use and peppered the Wirksworth goal, only their keeper having a superb match stopped BELPER from running away with the result.
Sadly, after a few positional changes at the back the one Wirksworth attack in the last few seconds of the match got through and they scored a great goal. Belper only had time to take the kick off just before full time was blown.
Hard luck to Belper today, a good goalkeeper and the conditions were against them today.

On to Foundation next week..

Quarter final v Wirksworth Colts

This Saturday saw Belper U13’s play Wirksworth Colts in the quarter final of the DGLL cup.

Belper started very brightly with some excellent passing play. Wirksworth got back into the game after about 10 minutes and it turned into an end to end game with no quarter given.
Wirksworth took the lead about 5 minutes before half time with a well worked goal from a header, the first goal against Belper from a header.

The second half was more of the same, Wirksworth beginning to get the upper hand towards the end, this ended with a superb goal from Wirksworth’s No. 9. Despite a late Belper effort, Wirksworth won the game 2-0 and progress to the semi finals against Heanor.

On to the next game away to Wirksworth in the league on Saturday 1st February.

U11's v Derby County Ladies White Sox

Belper U11's faced one of the two top sides in the league on Saturday. Derby County teams, the black socks and the white socks are both formidable teams.

Belper have been defeated by both so far this year despite playing some excellent football.

Todays game proved to be a hard battle in the conditions at Cavendish Fields. The first half was a tough fought encounter with both teams pressing, Belper definitely putting the break advantage Derby. Belper were also unlucky to concede a penalty towards the end of the half, both teams were happy to be drawing at half time.

In the second half, Belper just about won the half with an outstanding team effort from all the players. The whole team played what could have been their best football to date. No other goals were scored and Belper had to be contented with a draw despite 3 chances close to the death.

A first class performance from the girls....

U11's v Outwoods

After a wait of six weeks the U11's finally had a league game. Todays opponents were the very much improved Outwoods FC, at a meeting earlier in the season Belper ran out clear winners, however today Outwoods gave the U11's a good game.

For this game, the U11's fielded 11 players which is a first for the season.

True to form, Belper controlled all areas of the pitch and Daisy scored the first goal after 2 minutes. More goals from Elisia and Daisy gave Belper a good lead by half time. Just before the whistle for HT, Outwoods got a goal back. Despite a good save from Elizabeth, Outwoods got the ball in the back of the net from the rebound.

In the second half, Molly went in goals for Elizabeth who injured a finger in the first half. Due to a messed up clearance Outwoods managed to get another goal back. Belper managed another five goals in the second half. Goals from Maddie, Daisy and Faith helping Belper reach double figures.

Outwoods were 100% better than the last meeting between the two teams, but Belper kept in control and all the team played excellent.

Next week is against Toton at Alvaston.

Sheffield FC day out 29th October 2017

Belper Sports Ladies enjoyed another day out at their sister club today.

Sheffield FC were playing Durham FC in the Women's Super League div 2 match. The Belper players were given chance to meet some of the Sheffield in a Q & A session before the game began.

Our girls were also given the chance to be flag bearers and player mascots as the two teams walked out.

Despite the game not going to plan for Sheffield, losing 4 -0 to a very dominant Durham team, all our girls seemed to enjoy themselves immensely.
